Pensacola Beach Advocates and our Beachkeepers committee are hosting an "Eco Happy Hour" on Thursday March 12th from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the Pensacola Beach Church Fellowship Hall at the corner of Avenida 18th and Via de Luna Drive.

Sip on some beer or wine and enjoy a few snacks while learning about the environment, wildlife, and local agencies. The Eco Happy Hour is a great opportunity for property managers, hoteliers, businesses and beach residents to meet and mingle while visiting eco educational kiosks.

Admission is free and open to everyone. There will be representatives from many local and regional groups who are interested in preserving the environment and quality of life on our barrier island. These include:

  • Escambia County Sea Grant Agent, Rick O’Connor, with information ranging from sea turtle friendly lighting to how to find local seafood. Rick is the master of show and tell.
  • Jim Roberts with ECUA has partnered with Beachkeepers at a number of our events. Jim makes talking trash fun.
  • National Park Service biologist, Mark Nicholas, is a wealth of information on the upcoming nesting season for sea turtles and shore birds.
  • Audubon will be on hand with an informative display on beach nesting birds. You decide which is the cutest chick.
  • Local gardening expert, Emily Peterson, will share her enthusiasm for the role of native plants in the health of the beach environment and the relationship between plants and other denizens of the beach.
  • Escambia County Marine Resources staff will help us venture beneath our surrounding waters with information on artificial reefs and some tasty recipes for the invasive lionfish.
  • Santa Rosa Island Authority staff will be on hand to sign up beach ambassadors and share information on the trolleys. Be sure to check out the “Beach Rules”.
Please RSVP so we know how many people to plan for. All preregistered attendees will be eligible for a door prize drawing. For more information email or call 850-291-7451.
